What Is a C1 Motorhome Medical?

A C1 motorhome medical is a health assessment required for drivers applying for or renewing a Category C1 licence. The examination confirms that you meet the Group 2 medical standards required to drive vehicles between 3.5 tonnes and 7.5 tonnes Maximum Authorised Mass (MAM).

Many larger motorhomes fall within this weight range, meaning a standard Category B car licence may not be sufficient. Before purchasing or driving a larger motorhome, it’s important to check both your vehicle’s weight and the driving licence entitlement you hold.

Who Needs a C1 Motorhome Medical?

You may require a C1 medical if you are:

Applying for your first Category C1 licence
Planning to drive a motorhome over 3.5 tonnes MAM
Renewing your C1 entitlement
Over the age requiring medical renewal
Asked by the DVA or DVLA to complete a medical assessment

If your licence was issued in Northern Ireland, the Driver & Vehicle Agency (DVA) may require a DLM1 medical report. Drivers with licences issued in England, Scotland or Wales will usually require the D4 medical report.
