What is a PCV Medical?
A PCV medical is required when applying for or renewing a Category D or D1 bus or coach licence. For a Northern Ireland licence issued by DVA, the doctor normally completes the DLM1 medical report. A Great Britain licence issued by DVLA normally uses the D4 medical report.

What is a PCV driver medical?
A PCV (Passenger Carrying Vehicle) medical is a health assessment required for drivers applying for or renewing a bus or coach licence. The medical ensures you meet the Group 2 medical standards required by the DVA/DVLA to safely transport passengers. Your doctor will complete the relevant D4 or DLM1 medical report during your appointment.
Who needs a PCV medical?

How often do I need a PCV medical?
Most professional bus and coach drivers require a medical:
- When applying for a new PCV licence
- At 45 years of age
- Every 5 years from age 45 until 65
- Annually from age 65 onwards
The DVA or DVLA may also request additional medical assessments depending on your medical history.
